Dehumidifier Reviews

We’ve been doing dehumidifier reviews for a while now, trying to determine which brand should have the highest dehumidifier rating. When doing our reviews, we considered a number of factors we believe are important when selecting a dehumidifier.

Factors We Considered in Our Dehumidifier Rating Include:

  • How well it works at removing excess moisture from the air
  • How well it works to prevent mold in the home
  • Whether or not it has a filter that also removes bacteria from the air
  • How easy it is to operate
  • Does it allow you to control the exact percentage of humidity in your room
  • Whether or not it has an automatic shut off in case the water bucket gets full
  • Whether or not you can set it up to drain continuously instead of having to empty a water bucket
  • Available sizes
  • Cost

Here are the popular brands we reviewed:

Frigidaire

Frigidaire dehumidifiers ranked high in our reviews of various brands. Frigidaire offers dehumidifiers ranging in size from 30 pints to 70 pints. They are easy to operate, have an automatic shut off if the water bucket gets full and can be set up to drain continuously if you prefer not to have to worry about emptying a water bucket. One of our favorite things about Frigidaire dehumidifiers is their filters remove bacteria from the air as well as moisture. You can also control the percentage of humidity in the room. They are priced in the same range as most other brands of dehumidifiers, ranging in price from $179 to $249. If you want a 70 pint dehumidifier, Frigidaire does offer the best bargain.

General Electric

General Electric dehumidifiers ranked fairly high in our dehumidifier reviews. GE offers dehumidifiers ranging in size from 30 pints to 65 pints. They are easy to operate, have an automatic shut off if the water bucket gets full and can be set up to drain continuously if you prefer. They are moderately priced with prices ranging from $179 to $299. Our primary concern about GE dehumidifiers is that they do not have a filter designed to remove bacteria from the air along with moisture. That lowered their dehumidifier rating in our opinion.

Kenmore

Kenmore dehumidifiers ranked a bit lower in our dehumidifier reviews. Kenmore offers dehumidifiers ranging in size from 35 pints to 70 pints. They are fairly easy to operate, although removing and replacing the water bucket for emptying is a bit difficult. They do allow you to connect a hose for continuous draining if you prefer. They also lack the ability to remove bacteria from the air, although they do prevent the growth of bacteria in the water bucket. Many people that own Kenmore dehumidifiers report that they work well enough but are very noisy. They range in price from $159.99 to $299.99.

LG

LG offers 45 pint and 65 pint dehumidifiers. They are easy to operate, have an automatic shut off and allow you to connect a hose for automatic draining. They also have an air filter to remove allergens and bacteria from the air. They range in price from $218 to $258; the larger unit is priced similarly to other brands but the smaller unit costs more than many other brands. LG dehumidifiers ranked lowest in our reviews, as many people that have purchased LG dehumidifiers report that they don’t work well. People also report that they are very loud, even though they are advertised to run quietly.
